About Baltimore Gracie Jiu Jitsu

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art based on the principles of leverage and timing. It trains students in practical self-defense techniques that conserve energy, while forcing attackers to waste energy. Students are trained to end fights through achieving control of an attacker and applying a joint lock or choke hold.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was developed by Helio Gracie almost a century ago. Having a frail physique early in his life, Helio Gracie realized that he was unable to practice Jiu-Jitsu with his older brothers (he was youngest of 8 children). He was eager to make the techniques practiced by his brothers work for his smaller stature and through emphasizing the use of leverage and timing over strength and speed he created Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
